In the meantime I’ve been checking out adoption-related websites for dogs. I think I’ve settled on getting some form of Boston Terrier mix. (I really want to adopt something as opposed to buying a purebred.) Dog was part-Boston Terrier and I like that he never barked. Also, I fell in love with a little French bulldog at the Tabac store around the corner from my apartment in Paris. I’m okay with a somewhat neurotic and hyper dog as long as it’s smart. Now if only I could find a man who was seeking the same in a woman my life would be set.
Don’t expect me to get a doggie anytime soon. I want to do all of the research before I make the commitment. Plus, I want to get through working this summer to receive a small gauge of what my schedule will be like when working full-time. Then I need to check my lease and see if I can even have a dog. Otherwise, I’ll be waiting until I buy a house. Somewhere in all of this I need to research training a dog and see what the time commitment is like for that. I’m trying to decide if it’s better to get a puppy or something full-grown. Puppies are SO energetic, and sometimes you can get an older dog that’s already trained, but at the same time you never know how an older dog was treated. I adopted an older cat once before though and it worked out really well. Any opinions from dog owners?
Despite that it may be awhile before I get my dog, the whole process makes me happy. It’s a nice little project to work on and at the end of it all I might end up with a loving little adorable companion.

I think adopting an older dog can work out very well if you are careful about where you adopt from and take some time to get to know the dog before adopting. Most shelters will be very up front with you about the animals they have because they don't want you to get the dog home, discover it has severe behavioral problems, and then bring it back to the shelter.
Also look at any of the Rescue organizations in your city (I know there are a LOT and they are great, because my brother got his first dog, a Boxer, through Boxer Rescue of Your Town.) Look online for Boston Terrier Rescue organizations.
One thing about getting a puppy is that housetraining requires you be around at shorter intervals--puppies have to pee more often than adult dogs when they are being housetrained. If you can adopt an already housetrained dog, you can worry less about your workday.
So those are a few considerations. I've got some elves in Your Town that I've put feelers out to, so I'll send on any info I get.
Oh yay! I checked my lease and there's nothing related to pets so I'm guessing that my LL uses a pet addenda. I know she let the last resident have a bird, so I'll just have to ask her how she feels in regards to dogs.
I thought about the puppy needing to go out more often - that's one reason why I'd rather have a dog that's a little bit older. I'd also kind of like a crate-trained dog. Also, my yard is not fenced - so he'd be inside most of the day, but my house is decent-size.
Thanks for putting out feelers! I def can't take a dog before finals are over, but maybe my Dog will find me sooner than I think!
